We were lucky to be near Windsor recently for a friend’s wedding and as we were so close to Windsor and hadn’t been to visit, we arranged to meet some friends to explore the town and treat ourselves to a pub lunch. Lucky it was a beautiful crisp and sunny day!
Highlight of Windsor is Windsor Castle, the oldest and largest occupied castle in the world and the Official Residence of Her Majesty The Queen. You can walk around the castle, visit the gardens, see the State Apartments furnished with treasures from the Royal Collection and watch the changing of the guards.
The small town of Windsor offers great views and places to eat on the river including: Royal Oak, Riverhouse or The King and Castle plus many chains like Browns, All Bar One and the usual Thai Square and Pizza Express.
Eton is close, just cross the bridge in the city and you are there. You can also board one of the boats that take you on a Thames tour. Windsor station is surrounded with a mini-shopping mall full of boutiques topped with a few kitsch souvenir shops.
It is a great trip away from all the hustle and bustle of busy London.
