I never imagined many things about being a mummy, but this one I really did not see coming: that I would care so much was organising a one year old birthday party! I loved every minute of it and drove my sister, mum and husband mad! I spent hours looking for inspiration on pinterest, deciding on a theme, getting decorations, and making up party gifts. It was my baby’s first birthday, so I wanted to celebrate in style and I had the best day.
Here’s a post to share all the lovely things we did:
We had a toss up between Winter Onderland and Under the Sea as a theme. It was a tough choice but as Reya was born when it was cold and Wintry, Winter Onderland seemed perfect. I love Christmas!
We chose silver/baby pink and baby blue as the main colours and asked Preeti at Papersake to design the invites, banner and posters with a cute penguin and snowflakes on them.
I had decided that Reya was going to wear a tutu so we spent ages searching the perfect pink tutu and matching top (Next and Gap) so she would look adorable!
We had Reya’s party at a nearby hall and didn’t go overboard with decorations, just balloons and snowflakes! The hall was already filled with Christmas decorations so it worked well. We bought lots of balloons with a few super shapes foil helium balloons to wow the little ones. We handed them out when the children left the party, they were a hit! We had an entertained – Natalie from Boogie Babies who kept all the babies and kids busy – she use our theme for her session to sing Wintry songs like: Wheels on the sleigh, Reya’s song, two little dickie birds, singing in the snow etc. Natalie really knew how to capture the kids attention!
Food wise, we kept is simple – snacks of crisps, biscuits and hot chocolate or mulled wine to start with. For the mains we had children’s pizzas and Mombasa mix. Cake wise, it was without doubt going to be a Spoony Cakes creation. The cake maker had free reins and came up with the most creative and pretty cake which tasted delicious!
