Bridesmaid brunch – Opso

Opso is a new and trendy all-day Modern Greek diner, opened in Marylebone. Opso – an ancient Greek word for ‘delicacy’ is founded by British-Greek entrepreneur Andreas Labridis and architect Dimitris Karampatakis.

My sister was taking out her bridesmaids for brunch and after looking for the perfect place, we had booked at Riding House Club. But my friend Igor, a prolific blogger had posted pictures of his brunch at Opso so I wanted to try it out!

It aims to showcase the contemporary tastes and produce of Greece, such as honey and cheese, via ingredient-led cooking and a thoroughly London sensibility. The aim of the restaurant is to be social – motto: social food so there’s a long communal table and a menu full of shared plates reflecting Greece’s social attitude towards eating. I used to live in Southgate so know how similar the Greek and Indian eating culture is.

Sheillee and I went for the bagel-like, sesame-studded toasted koulouri bread, eaten as street food or breakfast in Greece with poached egg and Greek yogurt hollandaise. It was on the small side but tasty – the hollandaise sauce made it very light. My friend went for the scrambled egg on sourdough with feta and tomato. I found this very cheesy but loved the freshness of the sourdough bread. We shared two portions of the pancakes with homemade praline which were yummy. The pancakes were light and fluffy with the right consistency.

It’s a really airy place and I liked the idea of having a Greek brunch. If you like brunch and venturing to new places, then it’s worth adding this to the list….

Thanks Sheillee!
